The Women’s Choir studies and performs NYSSMA level 4, 5, or 6 pieces. The course is open to Sophomore, Junior, and Senior girls.
The prerequisite for this course is the completion of Freshman Choir or by audition. Students learn group vocal technique, music literacy, advanced music theory, sight reading, solfegé, singing in harmony and keyboard skills. Student led and highly improvisational, students collaborate to create and arrange original works to be performed throughout the school year. The Freshman Choir performs at the Winter and Spring concerts. Throughout the year students will learn to sing in several different languages such as English, Latin, and Ghanaian. A variety of genres are studied including classical, contemporary, spirituals, folk, and popular. Students learn group vocal technique, music literacy, basic music theory, sight reading, solfegé, singing in harmony and basic keyboard skills. The concert choir is an environment where vocal students can thrive and develop as individuals and as a community.
